在任何涉及到信息通信的领域，信号的传递需要经历至少3个阶段： 发出，传输，以及接受。因为传输信道中噪声的存在，以及机器不可避免的存在误差，信息永远无法达到100% 的传输效率，需要通过从降低传输效率，增加纠错算法等方法实现优化。
ECC (Error detection and correction) 可以用于实现在含噪声信道中进行稳定的数字信号传输。
